imputing income, what to expect
      #589997 - 10/20/09 11:57 AM

Don't know if we will actually be divorced or not, working on marriage, but want to be prepared (he may have cheated on me but I have not confronted yet). Have one 5 yr old special needs son (and to trolls let me preempt you and say that I always expected to work FT but have not due to his health issues). H makes over 150 a year. When I last worked 7 years ago I made 30K. In NJ what can I expect the amount of income to be imputed to me? I know imputing income now is standard. Thanks.

Have you checked the job market to determine what is available? In a divorce, oftentimes a vocational evaluation is performed by a Qualified Rehabiliytative Consultant (QRC) to determnine what your earning capacity may be presently, the length of time it may take to get 8nto a job and/or the cost of retraining and the market available after that retraining. That will often help determine how imputation occurs.

I have a masters in public administration, have never used it professionally (rec'd degree right when DS started having health issues). Have worked for nonprofits and for publishers. Neither of which are hiring right now - print is going under, nonprofits and government broke due to economy.
But if income is going to be imputed anyway then I guess I better start looking? The courts wouldn't be crazy enough to impute income HIGHER than I've ever made, right?
