Married 20 years/ length of Alimony in Minnesota
      #610874 - 12/14/09 01:11 AM

Married for 20 years. My X says he has to pay only until our 15 year old is 18. I have never had full time job because of living with Multiple Sclerosis for 18 years. I didn't research at the time because he pushed the paperwork thru 3 months after the loss of my Mother. I don't even remember signing paperwork. Does anyone know what rights I have? He got away with paying me very little. He was the one who cheated!

Are you receiving disability?

What paperwork have you already signed? Are you saying that you are already divorced?

The Gov cannot give anything to anyone - that they have not first taken away from someone else.

Yes divorce was final Nov. 2007. The reason for my research now is because of the death of my mom. It took a good 2 years to come out of a deep depression before I even realized what he got away with. It just didn't matter then.
I was mourning the unexpected death of my young 65 year old Mom. I didn't start thinking about the death of my 20 year marriage until just recently.

You're entitled to nothing 2 years after the divorce was finalized UNLESS spousal support was never addressed or it was and the amount owed was 0 ( leaving open the possibility of modification ) .

Careful. We don't want to learn from this.

I don't think that is even a possibility. If it was not adressed it was not adressed. Wouldn't laches come into play too?

No , in MN spousal support may be reserved for consideration at a later time as circumstances change . If SS was specifically waived it's doubrful anything could be done .

Your ex is a genius, and you are a bum. Thank God he dumped your lazy A$$.

Why are all the women wanting alimony always disabled ? Every single one has some reason why she can't work, wtf ?
