Does X have to be there?

We have mediation this month and he lives far away. Does he have to be there for mediation? And then after mediation, what's next?

He either has to be there or making accomodations to appear in some fashion, perhaps by phone. If no agreement is reached you go to court.

Can his lawyer represent him? There is a dispute over custody, so if we don't come to an agreement it will go to court?
