Militar man being raked over the coals!!!
      #661789 - 05/18/10 07:24 PM

So here is my problem. I live in Florida which is a no-fault state and am going through a divorce. I am 29 and my soon to be ex is 26. Her infidelity caused the divorce(which does not matter in FL) and she is now requesting alimony. She has been employed for the duration of our marriage(7 years + 1 year sep) as a legal sec from 2002-2005 and as a co-owner of a short sale negotiation investment company from 2005 to present date. She is not making grandiose money now as we all know due to the housing market bust, but I am an E-6 in the Navy and definately do not provide an "extravogant" paycheck that I would assume would be grounds for alimony. She has wrecked my credit pretty darn good and I really cannot afford to pay alimony unless I want to live paycheck to paycheck and forget about ever saving money again! What are the chances she gets the alimony and I am stuck emptying out lint in my wallet?

It is my understanding that it might help your cause if she has been supporting herself on her salary during the seperation.

You also do not have a long term marriage.

What are your salaries ? Or at least, what is the difference between your two salaries ?

I only make around 50K...I do not know her income this year due to our seperate bank accounts, but she has made around 20-30K typically.

FYI- If you are paying, forget saving much, regardless of state.

But anyway, I would still fight it. You make $20K a year more, where as her pervious income was probably about equal (assumption). She is underemployed. But NO MATTER WHAT, if you get stuck paying, make it contingent that it ends on co-habitation or marriage.
