Hi,
I am a Certified Divorce Financial Planner in Chicago and found this forum. I see so many questions on here and thought I would add my 2 cents. Requiring divorce financial planning in divorce is something we CDFA's have been petitioning judges for years on. It is so critical, and in the long run, really helps make a "smart divorce." So many people wind up after divorce with the scales tipped, lose their homes, bank accounts, 401ks, and more. They are left picking up the pieces. What we do is come in with expert knowledge and facilitate with plans for spliting the assets fairly, drafting agreements for parenting, facilitate a neutral environment. Our main source of clients come from attorneys who know that the "financial piece" is best suited for a CDFA who knows the ropes. We've help so many people who are so satisfied they made the right decision to hire a CDFA. If you are interested in more information you can see our website at [censored].yourfinancialdivorce.com there is a Fox News story on our company as well as articles and other information.
Do the right thing and make your divorce a smart divorce!

Nice explanation about CDFA's. I too am one and have seen the havoc that the judicial system create. Keep up the good work and it is too bad they censured your website in the post...it boils down to the mighty dollar for this forum.

I just read your post as someone in a very complicated financial situation who wants to divorce and is unable to because of our financial situation. I think I might benefit from some expertise regarding my financial issues. I'm curious about how much this kind of consultation may cost, how do I find a referral for a CDFA in my location, and what does the CDFA acronym stand for?

OK, I guess I just missed the part in the post which defined the CDFA acronym i.e. 'Certified Divorce Financial Planner.' I would like to know; what is the difference between utilizing a CDFA and a divorce lawyer or are they one and the same? Will you please explain (if any) the benefits or reasons one would refer to a CDFA over a divorce lawyer or does one need to contract both types of professionals? Already the financial outcome of such an action seems cost prohibitive to me.
