8 years ago I inherited a large sum of money which I invested in a "move up" home. As the checks came in some of them were deposited in a joint savings account temporarily while we looked for the new home. 100% of the down payment (roughly 1/2 the value of the house) came from funds that can be traced directly to my inheritance. Needless to say my H filed for divorce a couple of months ago and wants 1/2 the proceeds of the sale of the house. Given the depressed housing market, there has been no appreciation. The home is worth about what we paid per market analysis. I am asking for my original investment to be restored to me as my separate property. I live in Kansas. Do I stand to lose 1/2 my inheritance to this man?

How long were you married?
Most likely, unless he will work something else out with you, are out of luck. The house was joint marital property.
