Mental illness implication on Alimony and Custody
      #691798 - 09/21/10 10:45 AM

What is the implication of proven mental illness of wife during divorce on custody and alimony. Any possible negative consequences on the husband?
Any other issues worth considering?

There could be many implications. If she is so mentally ill that she cannot support herself - a spouse may have to pay alimony for an extended period - possible life if it was a long-term marriage.

If her mental illness interferes with her ability to provide a safe home for the children it certainly could have bearing. However anyone wishing to make such a claim should not have her be the stay-at-home mom. You can hardly argue that she is dangerous when she was entrusted to care for the kids during the marriage.

Forgiveness is...letting go of the hope that the past can be changed.
