Does anyone know if there are legal aid attorneys for divorce in CT? I need a divorce asap, and I have been advised not to do it myself. I've seen atty's in the past, and they all want a $10,000 retainer, which I cannot pay. Retainers get quickly eaten up, and before you know it, the divorce costs $50-75,000 in no time. I have friends who have plopped down the retainer only to spend a fortune in the end. I don't have any money of my own, and my husband has put us in tons of debt, and there is no equity left in the house. This is a domestic violence case. I'm meeting with them this week, so I will probably find out more then.

You need to call State Legal Services. They get Pro Bono Attorneys for those who have a very low income. Also, call 211 Info line. They may have more options. There is a good deal of assistance for domestic violence cases.
