Need to find my case number

Hi everyone! I wish I had found this forum when I was going through my divorce over 2 years ago. Luckily, I have found someone that I would like to marry. However, I don't have a copy of my divorce papers and would like them for peace of mind. I signed the papers, which my ex submitted to the court, but I never received anything after that. It seems unlikely that my ex would not have submitted the papers since she was the one pushing for the divorce, but I figure I should have something stating it is official. All my research says that I just need to go the courthouse with my case number and fill out some paperwork to request a copy. But I don't know the case number, and I didn't have a lawyer I can ask. I could ask my ex, but I really try to limit my dealings with her. Is there some resource where I can at least find the case number (in IL) without being charged an arm and a leg? Or is it possible to just show up at the courthouse without it? Thanks!

See if your court cases information is online somewhere -- it will have the case number on it as public information.

Yes, some states are posting all their court cases online...at least the bare facts. Try Googling your name and you ex's name and see what comes up. I was surprised to find my divorce on there (it was in Georgia).
