Hello!
I am writing this on behalf of my sister who has been separated from her husband for almost a year now. She will be going for divorce soon. Right after they separated, they closed all of their joint accounts except for this one credit card account. She forgot all about it until the bank called her and warned her about her loan amount... She found out that her husband has been happily charging and transferring balances from his other credit cards to this account!! Although she hasn't confronted her husband with this new finding and he has never mentioned anything about it to her, his motives are obvious.
Is there anyway, she can protect herslef from having to be responsible for half of that balance?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

---> Yes and no. She can get a court order (via a Legal Separation or Divorce Decree that he is solely responsbile for the balances he transferred, but that won't stop the creditor from try to collect from her because they are not responsible for people's personal lives. Or she could as that he establish his own account with the credit card company and transfer those balances to that account. Either way, she is going to have to prove that 1) they were not living together at that time and/or that she didn't not benefit from those purchases.
---> About the only other thing she can do is to file Bankruptcy.
---> By the way, she needs to cancel that card IMMEADIATELY!
