Dear Am I Nuts, no, I'm pretty sure you're not nuts, but if you're still in doubt, can I recommend a book that changed my life? See if you can find "Why does he do that?" by Lundy Bancroft. It really gave me a peek into his head and let me see that there was no "crazy" stuff happening, he knew what he was doing and it was working pretty well for him... at my expense.
You'll get through this. My husband didn't physically abuse me, he beat our daughter up. I worried a lot that he'd hit me one day, and then, I'd have a "good reason" to leave him. I waited too long, and he did something that hurt way more than hitting me, it was horrible. Everyone must surely think "oh, he'd never hurt the kids!". But, are you willing to sacrifice your children to his behavior? I wish I had left before he hurt her. May God Bless you.
