You have a lot of excellent advise here and compassion as well.

I'm sure you try to explain his actions away but there is no explanation good enough.

His rationale now is that if I really loved him like I said I did, I would try to work on things and find a solution, not just walk away. I do love him but intuition (and a very trusted friend) is tellng me to run in the other direction.

You don't have to prove your love for him. As far as working in the same office, do your best to make sure he knows you are serious even if it means one of you gets a new job. It is hard but you deserve better. The fact he blames you and thinks he's under control show he is going to become more and more violent, why would he change, he doesn't think he has a problem
