alimony after ten years

I have a friend married 8.5 years. She has no crisis in her marriage but wants out. Her husband is very successful and the potential settlement is large--he became successful largely after their marriage.
My lawyer told her that if she sticks it out to 10 years her likelihood of getting permanent alimony and a more generous settlement greatly increases.
