Define functional........ I did it with my son. He had severe reflux and would stop breathing due to choking. He was on a heart monitor for 8 months and it would beep to let me know he'd quite breathing..... He then got RSV and Asthma and due to the medication he slept in 15 minute intervals for the first 6 months of his life. He had to sleep in his carrier between hubby and I. He only slept during the "white noise" recording I did of the vaccum cleaner and it was 15 minute tape... one side... so he would sleep and then wake up.. so we would have to change it over to the other side. ++++++++
Oh Lord, you are conjuring up some dark memories.
D12 was on the Apenea monitor. It went off every 10 mintues, it seemed. Due to her breathing issues she also couldn't sleep more than 15 minutes at a time.
I started having panic attacks ...nervous breakdown. I started having horrible nose-bleeds, where the blood would just pour out. Luckily, my mom recognized panic attacks because she had them and sent me straight to a shrink. I walked into his office, just like you did, except D12 was 4 months old. He made me stop breastfeeding so my hormones could get back to normal. Put me on meds for awhile. Such dark, dark times. They weren't good.
H was traveling and due to D12's weak immune system, she wasn't allowed around other kids. So I sat in that house alone with her for 2 years. By the time it was getting better, I weighed 202 lbs!
My parents put, (and paid for) my D15 in Montessori school so she could have somewhat of a normal life. I sat in the house with that baby for 2 years...grieveing over my 2nd born and trying to keep her alive. Uggghhhh, so glad that's in the past!!!!!!
