According to the original poster, one of the main reasons for the divorce was that she didn't want to work. That doesn't appear to be a joint decision yet he has to continue to pay her.

During our divorce, my ex use to threaten me with having to pay him spousal support. The tragic thing was that my lawyer told me he could actually get it. He wasn't a stay at home father...he was a stay at home drunk! I was still taking the kid to school, doing all the household chores, YET despite all that, I still would have had to have paid him because we were married over 10 years.

My case isn't the only one like that. My mother was also a SAHM. No one benefited from that but her. Had my father not up and died, she would have divorced him and taken everything. She got to sit on her butt and do a little housework and cooking, and for that she would have gotten the house and his income.

Although Yengra/Maud dib is a bit extreme, he makes some good points on this issue. He is stuck paying SS to a woman he didn't agree to be a SAHM. Why is that fair?
