The life insurance is a "present Value" number. My ex gets SS worth $258,000 over 12 years. The present value of that amount today in year 3 is $125,000 roughly. That means if I buy the farm she gets a check for $125,000 and would need to put it away in a savings account drawing 5% for 9 years to get her $258,000 less the 2.5 years worth of SS she has already received. She did not understand that and tried to fight it, the judge denied her motion.
