“He is going to make one last attempt to talk to my spouses attorney.”
Whether he gets through or not, you are paying for all these attempts.. You need to have strong words with your attorney about your expectations.. How many times has he tried?? Even you in your limited experience, have already figured out that she is just delaying... This seems to have gone on long enough..
Have you got your first billing yet?
"Another dumb question. Can the attorneys represent the clients or do I and the spouse have to show up for court? Talking Pretrial hearings and all divorce hearings."
1004 went through the Georgia courts right up to the eve of trial so she can probably ask you more specifically if you PM her..
In NY, clients MUST show up... But as long as we are represented we don't get to talk..
In my case, except for the trial, we weren't even allowed in the courtroom on any of the court dates. The lawyers talked, the judge talked.. A couple of times, they would come out and ask one of us a question (my ex and I sat at opposite sides of the court building, we never saw each other)...
It is a TOTAL waste of time.. In NY, it is called "a cattle call", everyone that is due to appear that day must show up at 9am.. But who knows when your case will be called..
Our judge liked to have her cattle calls cleared by noon, so trials could be held in the afternoons... So by noon, most of the people milling around outside the courtroom had been cleared out... and we would still be sitting there.. I think the judge just got to the point where she hated dealing w/ us, year in and year out... so procrastinated as long as possible...
The moral of the story, is that you will probably have to take a whole day off of work to get maybe five minutes of face time in front of a judge...
Sorry, don't mean to be so pessimistic.. Your question brought up shudders from my past
