I see what you mean, Redlegg -- but if my x decides to cut way back on his work hours, couldn't he then ask to have support modified? What if he chose to retire early? I don't want to worry about seeing him in court after the divorce is final.

Should I ask for a smaller lump sum now in lieu of a larger total of alimony later?
