I think there is also a change in focus from the "for better or worse" idea into "am I happy" and "am I in love". People want more out of life--in a way that's good, in a way bad.
In this age of self-improvement and self-fulfillment, it's good to go after things that will make us happy. But it's almost like now people feel entitled to a constant high, and if it's not happening within a relationship, they throw the marriage (and life as a family) out the window.
