She filed for dissolution on June 27th, the same day that I was served with the ex parte order and temporarily evicted from my own home for ten days (with $8 cash to my name -- she cut me off from our joint checking account.) I have a court date Oct 17 in which I have asserted that the marriage is not irretrievably broken (I am contesting the divorce), asking for a period of separation coupled with marital counseling, instead of a dissolution. My attorney says that it is a long shot, but he has seen this tactic work before. We originally decided to pursue this on the rationale that our marriage was troubled by misunderstandings and miscommunications which could be resolved. But I see that her cruel, vindictive behavior will probably make my wish impossible. I pray constantly to God that He will save my marriage and family, because He can do the impossible.

My attorney and I are furiously trying to get a detailed deposition from my doctor confirming my disabilities, in order to counter my wife's threat to evict me and cutoff the measly $300/month she agreed to provide me (for groceries, gas, and medicine) during the divorce proceedings, if I don't "get a job" within two weeks; it will also play a role in my pursuit of both temporary and permanent maintenance payments from her, if she follows through on her threat (which I resent), and the divorce becomes final. My disabilities are well-documented by six specialists, along with my doctor (and the VA, although I must now reapply for VA disability benefits.)

My doctor is overburdened in this town, because very few doctors want to live here, so his input into all of this is rather slow. He did produce a letter stating that I have been completely disabled since 2003, and in his medical opinion, will never be able to work again. However, my attorney wants a detailed deposition along with all of my medical records. I pray that this will happen in time to avoid being homeless in two weeks.

After that, who knows? My wife is doing everything within her power to deprive me of basic necesssities and comfort of any kind. And the maintenance issue is disfavored in Missouri, so I have the burden to prove that I need it. My attorney claims that he sees a total of eight factors in my favor for maintenance -- possibly lifetime, but I'm not counting on it until the judge makes that decision.

At some point, if I can gain temporary maintenance that is sufficent, I would like to move to Maryville, MO (45 miles away) for a year or two, while all of this (and while my SSI and VA disabilities are being processed). Maryville is a college town, with about 12,000 permanent residents and twice as many college students. It offers the opportunity to seek new friends, provide me with the medical support I need for my failing kidneys and other disabilities, and would eliminate the total isolation I am experiencing now -- the worst time imaginable to be isolated.

But without money from somewhere, that move is not possible. If she follows through on her threat, I will be homeless in two weeks. If the farm sells at a price that covers the costs, then I will be homeless. Everything depends upon maintenance for me, both temporary and permanent. Without it, I am homeless. My attorney says the he will do everything he can to make sure that I am not homeless, but who can ever predict Court decisions?

After a couple of years, depending on whether or not my kids want to reconcile (neither one is even speaking with me,) then I will try to move to Florida or Jamaica. I like the climate down there; it is much easier on my joint and back pains.
