spousal support in NY?

My bf is trying to get a divorce, but his estranged wife refuses to sign. She doesn't work because she gets 100% disability from the V.A.. She gets over $40,000 a year from disability and I know she was going to court to get her SSI last year (not sure if she got it, it was originally denied).
Whenever bf pushes her to get the divorce going she starts claiming her lawyer said she could get spousal support and she threatens she's going to take him to the cleaners.
Recently bf's lawyer contacted her supposed lawyer and they said they are not representing her because she hasn't paid the retainer.
So not sure if they told her during her first meeting with them if she could get spousal support. I didn't think NY did this anymore. Any information would be greatly appreciated. My bf gets all nervous and jerky whenever she says "my lawyer said" so he backs off (and she obviously realizes this too).
Thanks! :)
