If there is a divorce decree, chances are the SSN is listed there and they know it anyway. People will tell you that if the CO says the NCP gets to claim the child, they can but I have not read anything in the current code that supports that. The "pre 1985 CO" jargon would only apply to a junior or senior in College at this point, so not applicable to most people asking this question.

If you are the CP, you claim the child.
