I have a BIL very similar to your XH. He was royally P.O.'ed when I told him that I was actively seeing his child that he abandoned after 2 years of contact.

You know what he's afraid of? He's afraid that his ex will say horrible things about him and that I will take her side. I ALREADY KNOW all of BIL's shortcomings, I don't need his ex to show them to me--- What I had to explain to him was this ISN'T about HIM or HER, it's about THEIR son- MY nephew.

I had DH's whole family consumed and mad at me, ALL Christians- all appalled that I wasn't doing the 'Christian thing' by standing by BIL's choices. Where in the Bible does it say it's okay to walk away from your son not once or twice but THREE times after you have already had him in your life for two consecutive years? That nephew has 2 half siblings he has NEVER seen, and two others that he bonded with for two years that he has now never sees. He's 9. :(
