Middle ear infection -- technically called otitis media -- afflicts nearly half of all children by age 3. The infections cause fluctuating hearing loss, which can slow development in learning language and motor skills.

This is what's happening to my son's son right now. He's got to go into early intervention for his speech delays now for all the ear infections due to all the cigarette smoking that he was exposed to during his first two years of life that contributed to his six ear infections alone this past year.

He lost a big chunk of his language. AND, yep, they are still smoking around him and refuse to stop all because my son cannot get the no smoking clause incorporated back into the court order.

Gr8Dad, I don't agree with you on this one...Smoking is harmful to kids. Sorry. It shouldn't be done around them at all. If you are going to smoke, do it outside. That's all I'm saying. Not in another room. Outside.
