grandparent rights with unmarried teens

We have a 17 year old son. He and his girlfriend, also 17, are expecting a baby in April. They plan to be married after they both graduate school in June. By then, they will also both be 18. The girl's mother hates my son and does all she can to try to break them up and is not supporting their marriage plans. We are concerned that between the time the baby is born and the kids get married that she will try to do something. Can she file for custody of the baby? Should we be doing anything ourselves?
