CS is usually retroactive to the date of filing. Our case was in NY, and we also had a temporary order. What CSE did when they received the final order was to figure out the total owed, subtract what the court had given him credit for paying with the temporary order, then considered the rest arrears. He actually paid more than the order stated, so it took some doing on my part to get that straightened out, but he got caught up within a year.
