debating with myself; seeking input

hello all,

the highlights briefly . . . married 17 years - 2 kids - and separated for the past 2 years. he has a new live-in GF, i'm in an 18-month rel'ship. We can't agree about money (surprise!). I'm debating with myself to take the crappy settlement deal just to be done with it. He wants the remaining issues to be settled when he retires in about 15 years. He doesn't contribute to expenses. He doesn't pay CS. I'm carrying the insurance and the leftover joint credit debt. He refuses to pay the back taxes. We settled on the house equity, but nothing else. My mom and others feel strongly that i should continue the fight to get what I'm reasonably due. Others say minimize your losses and get on with your life. I'm going back and forth. It's so unfair. He accuses me of "using the system" to steal. My position is that the system exists to protect us from people like him. I'm struggling financially, but I'm not in dire straights yet. Spend more on lawyers to get what i deserve? Let him get away with being an _____? Stand up for myself and what I believe in? Take the high road and surrender the fight? Fight him tooth and nail?

All reasonable input is welcomed and appreciated.
