You have others to consider beside yourself and that is your children. If you can't fight for a fair settlement for yourself fine,... but I think it is your responsibility to do so for your kids.

Many stbx spouses work hard at getting the other to go belly up just to get it over with.. those who go belly up often realize later on that was a mistake and by that time it can be too late to revisit the settlement.

My advise is to spend more to get what you and your children deserve. Why are you left with the bills, taxes and no CS? And don't just willingly pass on your right to a share of his retirement. The only way settling now and getting nothing might make sense is if your income is much higher than his. Don't wait on the remaining issues until he retires.. that gives him a lot of time to take his retirement and other assets earned during the marriage and move them around around, hide it etc so that there is NOTHING left to be an issue.

You Mom is right. Toughen up, do what the system allows, think of your kids .. think of your future. Your take on the system is right on. It is up to you to make use of it.
