How to amend a filed petition?

County: Santa Clara, California
I filed the petition and this is an uncontested / entry into default case with no property or children involved. I also filed form 160, declaration of property, however just found out now that missed to check the box "property rights to be determined", box 7h on the petition, which is needed when the form 160 is filed.
The clerk who reviewed my paperwork did not catch this up to now but I was told that the judge will see this later on and return everything since this is missing and he can not make his order.
How can I amend the petition? I was told I need to file a Stipulation, appearance, / waiver with an additional $355 fee. The divorce will become joined and no longer defaulted. Is this correct? Or am I able to complete the same petition, correct the errors, call it amended and resubmit like with any other forms? The fee seems excessive for this kind of amendment in the former case.
Your input is very much appreciated.
