Definitely get a lawyer dude.
My soon to be ex threatened me $93,000 over 18 years and me taking 100% of the debt with little to no asset to divide and this is for an 11 year marriage and no children. I got myself a lawyer immediately. At pre-trial conference, they were asking for $80,000 for 5 years. The judge recommended $36,000 for 3 years and a 50-50 split of the debt and equalization of legal fees. Big difference. She felt she was "entitled" to 5 years. Yeah well, too bad.
Protect yourself. Getting an experienced divorce attorney makes all the difference in the world. Don't go for some hodge podge we do it all law [censored]. Find one that only does family law/divorce.
