I think it would help if you would try to see things from the perspective of those of us who have had to pay unreasonable alimony, just as you are, and the response we recieved.

You have said that you do not want pity, and that is admirable, however for DECADES men have been told that they had to pay alimony (and men have, and still are a LARGE MAJORITY of alimony payors), and when they complained about it, not only were not given any pity or help, we were told that we were jerks for not WANTING to WILLINGLY give ex spouses large sums of money.

From such treatment, I would hope you can understand that some people are very bitter about the subject, especially those of us who were not the main "cause" of the divorce.

To put it in perspective, suppose you bought a car, made the payments on it for say two years, and the bank TOOK the car, and demanded that you continue to make the payments on it. You now still have to give up YOUR resources for an item that no longer provides you with any return or input.

Can you see how that would anger someone? And while it is never fair to lump all women into one category, the most vocal voices, especially those that are regularly publicized that speak for the women's movement, have come out with completely differing opinions. There have actually been articles from N.O.W. stating that men should be HAPY to pay alimony because of what they have gotten from a wife, and in a different article, that lessor earning men should be EMBARRASSED to take alimony from a woman.

Many women in the public eye cry out for equality, while still wanting to maintain "special citizen" status in regards to other areas, and it is simply not compatible.
