It really has nothing to do with your post but I would have to ask how many applied and what were their qualifications?

Because I worked in a predominantly male field prior to having children (engineering). Men were advanced more than women. But - men were more available whereas women tended to guard their off-time as precious. So if John is ALWAYS willing to stay late on a project, but Mary has to get home, John ends up with more accolades and thus - promotion/raises for good work. ANd nevermind that women tended to be more - socially oriented - while at work where the men that I worked with - I have no idea if they had families, dogs, liked so-and-so, etc. Because they did not engage in much socialization at work. Those are gross generalizations, but more true than not. The women who WEREN'T that way - I saw them rise up quickly. Because management was anxious to promote a "minority" whenever possible.
