Why didn't he get thrown in jail?

In court yesterday, my ex started shouting at the judge, slamming papers down on the table, and got extremely verbally abusive TO THE JUDGE! There was an armed officer in court (as per my lawyer's request). I thought for sure he would be thrown in jail or some other consequence for this scary behavior.

Nothing.

His case got thrown out...(i win!!!) but he basically was ALLOWED to lose his friggin mind in court.

Why didn't he get thrown in jail?
