"Totally disagree. Just because you are married does not mean you are owed/granted/deserving of money. It amazes me that people feel entitled to money, but not debt. Had he run up 50K in credit card bills over that time is she to pay half of that too, by sheer fact of being married?? "
Who the h3ll said I thought I was not entitled to pay debt???? The marital debt is a big part of the settlement. VA is an equitable distribution state, so the court is taxed with coming up with an equitable ratio. As it turned out, my ex lied, repeatedly, about how much marital debt we had. He eliminated much of after I scoured all his documents. But then the cheat added bogus wedding costs he said he paid off. He did sent this in one day before court, hoping I wouldn't be able to check it. He said he paid for my gown, shoes, jewelry, bridesmaids gifts, flowers and I can't remember what else. It totaled about 8-9k. The reason we had to look at those amounts is b/c he took the 10k in wedding gift money and stuck it in an account we could not find. We never did. He didn't provide discovery of all bank accounts or safe deposit box, etc. Okay, I got off topic. Sorry.
