He had a separation agreement drawn up that said we had already divided all marital property, as in household furnishings, which we had not. I refused to sign it. It also said I had no claim to any marital assets. When I refused to sign it, he pressured me.
I asked him for $$ to help me until I could get enough work to get by on. He refused, saying that he was not responsible for me. I told him the only way I'd sign his agreement was if it were changed to help me. He told me to let him know what I wanted changed. I did two times, through email. He said he never got the messages. I said okay, let me try again, if the deal is still open. He said he'd already told me to do it and I hadn't, so the deal was off.
Then his lawyer sent me a letter telling me that if I did not sign the agreement, I would be responsible for a (hugely inflated) marital debt amount. He worded it in a way to trick me into signing. (I got the debt amount straightened out later after I was able to go through his discovery).
Once I finally got a lawyer, we asked for sp. support for the interim sep. period. They refused to even consider it, and kept bringing up this ever-increasing marital debt amount.
What bugs me is that NO ONE questioned his figures or looked at a single statement or contract or agreement to verify his amounts! Everyone just figured he was telling the truth! He included loans and credit that was paid off before I left!! The whack job actually had the balls to include my wedding gown and other wedding costs that I paid for before we were married! Nobody doubted the AF major.
We've been asking for a settlement. The hearing was in Nov. We ran out of time, and the judge said he would give us a decision later. It's hard to wait.
