I have a question about alimony. I requested reasonable alimony to allow me to continue my studies to become a teacher as I'd been doing when I lived with stbx. The papers state that since I was able-bodied & could have been working that alimony would basically be out of the question to be expecting and that they are denying my request for it. I specifically stated that I only wanted alimony for a year and it was quite a low amount that stbx & I had originally agreed on. Basically what it is for is for books, which are phenomenally priced....I don't want it for selfish reasons or whatever. I am seriously wanting to become a teacher & I'm 1/2 way through my studies in accomplishing that goal. I'm just wondering if the idea that I could have worked could allow him to get out of paying it? In the scheme of things, this is not a priority to me...but I do want to ask these questions so I'm prepared when I speak to the atty.
