It offends me every time an NCP or step parent says this. I have one child how has failed her way through the 1st 3 years of high school and it has absolutely NOTHING to do with my parenting. I have been at that school, I have sat in on classes, picked up uncompleted homework from every teacher, am on a first name basis with her counselor and have the Asst principal on speed dial. I can not FORCE her to do the work

She has decided to do a 180 this year and has all A's & B's for the first quarter. If she passes everything she graduates, if not she doesn't. Trust me though, it has nothing to do with me and what I haven't done for her. For the record i have 2 other daughters in school. One other in high school and one in 8th grade both of them have always been on the honor roll and have been A and B students. My 15yo doesn't know HOW to do anything half way, she is not designed to fail or even be average. She works her butt off. Miss 17yo doesn't care and no one can make her.

It's you SD's accountability not her parents. People need to own their own weaknesses. The kid is 18. It's on her.
