How about her Dad? he can't do girlie things with her? What about the other daughter, what does she deserve? How about the other sons? The poster mentioned that she has tried to spend time alone etc with this SD8...sometimes the problems are bigger than the parent. Don't forget that this poster also has other children. What if the rule is "if you can't behave in public, you don't go."? You don't know if it is or isn't, but I can tell you that many families have a similar rule. Suggesting to bring the SD8 regrdless of that rule would be "treating her different" than the rest...right?

There is no blanket gurantee to belnding (or not) blending a family. There are more people, more kids to consider than the SD. It may never work, and she may eventually understand that by behaving appropriately, she will be happier.

While your suggestion to treat everyone the same is politically correct, it is practically impossible. I have a bio sister...well, many bio sisters, step sister and a couple of step brothers...10 in all to be exact. Every one of us was different with different needs....and I have one bio sister that while treated "the same" as me...was and still is a negative, attention seeking perpetual victim. Why then, do you think, we are so different? PEOPLE are different.

There is no one solution for best blending a family. The dynamics of each person and each situation are different.
