My ex was using state services at the time...any change in income would be a reason for a re-evaluation. I've never been behind or had arrears.

I'll tell a mistake I made. I was paying my ex a property settlement monthly for a long period of time. She asked if I would agree to have the decree changed to the money being earmarked for the kid's college, as the state was reducing her cash benefit because of the payment....it sounded like a great idea to me.....except this opened the door for CSE to have a new hearing since my ex now had a "substancial change in income." At that point, my ex's subsidized daycare became 1/2 mine, to be paid to the state, even though we shared custody and I was 100% responsible for my own daycare. I had to pay for the kids medical assistance that my ex qualified for, even though I provided excellent coverage through my employer, and the assistance was secondary coverage (it probably paid a couple hundred dollars over 5 years, but added over $7K in support during that time). I actually paid about 4 times what the property settlement was to the state to cover the benefits. And, my ex never used the daycare, but in my state the amount paid by the NCP is calculated on what the CP qualifies for, rather than what is actually used.

But, who knows about crap like this until it happens to you?

When I first walked into a CSE office, I didn't understand why the employees worked behind bullet proof glass, you talked to them through an intercom system, and if you had anything for them, it was put in an envelope and passed through a slot.

It quickly became very clear.
