How many arrears have you accrued as the cp, did you have the option to just owe, while your kids were taken care of anyway, or did you figure out a way to work? When your son had the concert to get to a while back and you couldn't afford the gas money to get him there, you did what pretty much every other decent cp does, you figured out a way to make it work anyway. Whether that's borrowing money, getting a second job, reducing their own needs and wants, there are many options... an option cps don't have is to just accrue arrears while business is still taken care of.
