I am not sure I'd I would classify this situation the same as locking up the house or car when your not in it. She has a car and locks it up regularly, and the same with the house if she is the last to leave. This is her home and she really shouldn't feel like she has to be so protective of her belongings inside of the house. BUT, it may be the only option here. I don't feel like she should be penalized for not ensuring all of her things are locked up while she is home.
