Yes the kids that live with BM where the ONLY income in the household is CS- they will probably get a ton of financial aid. But if some of those dependents work or BM is remarried, etc. the entire household income should be included on the FAFSA and aid will be based on that amount.

Your DD- will her father help with college expenses at all? If she is planning to LIVE at college then can you figure out about how much you spend on her while living at home and put that towards her college expenses?

She needs to start filling out college scholarships ONLINE, through the college she plans on attending and through her school. I received enough scholarship $$ to cover my first two years at a CC for free. I didn't have to use at the CC, but if I chose to do that it would be free to me. Financial advisors suggest that a student going into their senior year of HS should apply for about 500 scholarships. Look at scholarships in your local community as well.

If not she takes out a student loan and when or if you are able to, at some point, you can help pay those off. Also after her first year at college she can look into being a RA- they will usually pay a portion of your college expenses (at SD's school they will pay room and board, which account for about 1/2 of her total college expenses).

My kids always thought it was unfair that SD received two Christmas' or two birthdays. Sometimes life is unfair, BUT we continue on, someday things will probably even out :)
