Practicing without water available at the school would be concerning to me. There have been too many stories in the news about hs kids getting overheated and falling out when there aren't any issues, but the chances of that would be worse if they couldn't hydrate.

What was the issue? A broken pipe at the school? A water main in the area? I get that not having water for the restrooms would be problematic at best, but I can also imagine that the school was in a catch-22.

If they were getting status updates from maintenance that told them that repairs would be completed "soon", they had to measure the problem of releasing early (notifying parents, going into emergency mode) against the chance they'd be back up in the next hour or whatever. They probably figured they'd piss off people no matter what they did.

I have to say though I'd want them to at least call me and give me the choice. I'd tell the boys to get their assignments and come home as soon as they had them.
