Yes, I would have an issue with it. I think anything health and safety related the parents should be notified.

Just went through this myself this week. DD's school was on lockdown. One of the schools hit with the "suspicious white powder" mailings that went around this week in New England and Texas mostly. Lockdown for a day, school closed for the next day at the urging of the FBI.

I was never notified. I found out when I showed up at aftercare and the head lady came running out the minute she saw my car pull in. Knew there's no way I could have known or I would have called saying she wasn't coming b/c I would have been at school. And the school district/FBI forbid afterschools from contacting parents, ONLY notification (other than word of mouth obviously) had to come from the automated system.. which.. didn't notify me. At all.

I was calm when I talked to the school yesterday. Hopefully the issue has been resolved. But no, I wasn't pleased to not be informed about what had happened... not at all. I absolutely would have been at the school to pick her up (I didn't get her til almost 6:30, she didn't get on a bus til 5:30, mostly b/c of parents picking up but I live so close to the school I could have went home and walked to school and got her and walked home).
