I loved my beagle Roxy who I had to put down a year and half ago and still miss her greeting me at the door...

She barked when someone came to the door but we trained her not to bark at any other time. She was an inside dog. She did shed and beagles have a penchant for getting a whiff of something and following the smell so you do have to watch them as many a beagle has wandered away.

She was wonderful and so loving and caring. She would get on the bed when I was sleeping and burrow under the cover and I would wake up when she got warm pr I tried to roll over and couldn't lol!!!

I would not get the older one as 11 is old for a beagle and I would hate for you little ones to get attached to an animal that might have 5 years if she is in excellent health, that being said if she needs a home I would take her in (I take in animals that need homes vs. buying animals).

Vets will tell you their life span is generally 15 years in good health - my Roxy was only 9 but she had some medical issues. The can be stubborn in the potty training phase.

They do bay but you can train them like any other dog.

I still miss my baby - she is the only one I had cremated and she sits on my dresser in a cute little wood box with her name engraved on it - if you hadn't guessed I really loved Roxy the beagle =)

Sh!t Zu's are great and they do not shed and are lovers and sweet but they do need brushing and their hair cut as it does grow long. We now have minidoxie and basset - bassets are good but they are short the ground and when they are at their full weight you trip over them as they are the right height and heavy enough they do not move if you run into them lol!!!
