I understand where you are coming from. Its tough affording what kids costs nowadays.
I've experienced both perspective. Being custodial parent and receiving child support and saving towards college on my own and then have one child leave home, not speak to me and then I'm still responsible for college expenses (and my college savings was not enough to cover it). I've also watched my husband pay child support to his ex, only ending up giving her extra money because she's getting evicted and you wonder where all the child support money was going to.
Bottom line, you will not have to pay college expenses until a judge tells you to. But once this goes to Court, you will have to pay something. You may get credit because you have two children....BUT the judge may not be happy to hear that you saved for one child and didn't for another. From their perspective, child support is not for college savings and if you are saving for one child...all children deserve the same opportunity.
