Yes I read the article and if she was warned several times why "this" time that is what is confusing to the child - she gets warning after warning after warning - why was the punishment not meted out the first time? I still disagree with the punishment it is extreme.

I tend to agree with SRS that if the parent actually parented then the child would be getting the school work done - the child could have a learning difficulty or needs help?

It doesn't say that the parents even checked into if she needed extra help with school work doesn't say if they had been to the school or talked to the teacher or anything - oh yeah - that's right - that would require parenting.

The article said that the parents laughed all the way to jail - this tells me that if they think it is ok to do what they did (which many find offensive and not punishment but humiliation) what else do they think is ok to do to the child.....

Just because your children are not covered in bruises doesn't mean the are not abused.

I completely agree with the follow through of a punishment (not that type of punishment) but if she was warned "several times" with no follow through and then finally a follow through well no wonder she didn't do better and maybe she couldn't do better without help...

I'm not a whishy washy parent or a "oh there there" parent but I don't have to resort to humiliation to get my child to be responsible and behave himself - it's called consistent parenting from day one - it's called getting off ones a$$ and being a parent EVERY time not just when it works for me. I don't sit my child in front of the tv or video games for hours on end and homework is done at the table after school until done. If I take tv away and I have something I need to do and would be great to be able to allow him to sit in front of the tv while I did it - I don't just say - oh hey son I know your grounded from the tv but I have something to do so you can go ahead and watch tv - soooooo many parents do this or something similar and it just teaches the child that punishment doesn't mean punishment if it isn't convenient for my parent.
