As with Lexie, I don't agree with the ACTUAL punishment, just the follow through. I also agree that if a child is raised right, you won't find yourself in this situation to begin with, but I also have first hand experience of being in that situation. My first marriage involved three step kids that weren't raised right from the get-go. Add to that, there was no united front regarding raising and disciplining the step kids as well as our two daughters (one of the many reasons we ended up divorcing). She was too touchy-feely and wanted to be their friend instead of their mother. If there was a disagreement, my ex would try to air it out in front of the kids, which they would use to their advantage. Punishments ended early because it was too much of an inconvenience for her. The kids realized there was little to no accountability which they also used to their advantage. I don't have that problem with my current wife and since I obtained custody of my daughters and we raise/discipline them the way we both deem as "right", there is a night and day difference in their behavior, attitude, school grades, etc. My oldest daughter is on the honor roll and actually thanked us for "our style of parenting" as cmpared to before.
