There is also the little matter of holding on to a passport. A big NO when you are out on bond. He turned in the one but kept the replacement one. Again, this was not a mistake or misunderstanding. He is clearly heard on the phone with his wife telling her his passport was in his bag. She tells him, she had one in the safety deposit box and he tells her to hold on to that one.

The problem with apples/oranges and all that is, his defense is, "Stand Your Ground". In order to use that defense and make it believable is, you have to be pretty much "above reproach". Throwing out lies during questioning, bond hearings and court proceeding and talking to your wife in code while in jail tends to really hurt the "above reproach" angle. He is already dealing with a past record to overcome. He needs to be nothing short of squeaky clean.
