How do I know?

I live paycheck to paycheck. I hate it and it is hard to get used to. I pay $1000 a month rent and yes I have some debt. At the divorce, the judge said we would be responsible for our own debt. I have to admit, it is not as bad as I have heard. But, how do I know if I should do it or not? I'm tired of the phone calls and all the attitudes. Is it a bad thing to do?
